The New York Mets talked with the agents of free agents Russell Branyan and Nick Johnson as they continue to look for options for first base in 2010. Branyan hit .251 with 31 home runs and 76 RBI for the Seattle Mariners in 2009. He had a back injury which limited him to just 49 games after July 1. Nick Johnson hit .291 with eight home runs and 62 RBI in 457 at-bats between the Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins in 2009.
The Mets are trying to find someone who can play first base for 2010 as they wait for prospect Ike Davis. Davis is expected to be ready for the major leagues in 2011.
